Tree Planting & Aftercare
Delivering the full range of services from site preparation through stock selection, planting, transplanting and aftercare in accordance with the British Standard 8545:2014
Trees: from nursery to independence in the landscape
Tree Planting and Transplanting
The British Standard 8545 is the professionals' guide for planning, designing, resourcing, producing, planting and managing new trees in the landscape.
The standard sets out how new trees can be successfully grown and planted so that they flourish in the landscape without excessive maintenance and it promotes the principle that successful new tree planting relies on the integration of careful design, nursery production and planting site management, into one continuous process.
All parts of the process are important and need careful consideration if new trees are to successfully achieve independence in the landscape.
Pruning and Aftercare
Post-planting management and maintenance is important if longevity in the landscape is to be achieved.
A full young tree management programme with budgetary provision should be in place for all planting schemes.
This management programme should be in place for at least 5 years.
Orchard Restoration
Old orchards have much value, in terms of biodiversity, amenity, food source, genetic, local distinctiveness and intrinsic worth.
In the UK, we have lost over 60% of our traditional orchards since the 1960s.
Veteran orchards are well worth saving; they often have high biodiversity, cultural, heritage and genetic value. With modern commercial fruit growers favouring small, shorter lived trees, it’s vital to safeguard our traditional orchards.
GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
Provided to the British Standard 7370:1991 guidance -
Grounds maintenance is the upkeep of land that has a recreational or amenity use.
- Provision of management plans and objectives, preventive maintenance and forward planning costs to enable effective budgetary forecasting and allocation of appropriate funds.
- Landscape design for trees in the hard landscape, grass areas, hard landscape areas, siting of furniture, planted areas, management of people and control of access to enable strategic planning.
- Consult, design and delivery of the proposed works to ensure a consolidated framework for effective maintenance of grounds enabling land owners to optimise planning objectives and priorities, staff resources for routine maintenance and to deliver improved efficiency and cost-effectiveness in ground maintenance applications.
- Utilising modern equipment which ensures efficiency and consistency to deliver best value for money output

With all of the skills, equipment and qualifications of a much larger company, there are none of the additional costs associated with share holder dividends, executive salaries and pensions nor is there the unwieldy, impersonal corporate clumsiness.
Empire Tree and Garden Services places great value on retaining existing customers and prefers to look after the few rather than the many.
Small Enough to Care, Big enough to Cope!
By drawing upon the known and trusted skills of an experienced cadre of specifically qualified sub-contractors, Empire Tree and Garden Services retains a small company status with the ability to surge capacity to compete for commercial tasks that would usually be undertaken by much larger firms.
The key to delivering success where the larger firms may fail is that senior / management staff from corporate entities rarely visit the 'coal face.'
With Empire Tree and Garden Services you will have all of the skills and experience of the CEO, the Quality Auditor, the Customer Relations Executive, the Health & Safety manager etc all on site, all of the time, focused upon your task.
Empire Tree and Garden Services places great value on retaining existing customers and prefers to look after the few rather than the many.
There are an abundance of low skill / low cost operations in rural areas. Whilst there may be occasions where low skill / low cost might be appropriate, please do not expect a "we'll beat any quote" response as this rarely provides true value for money.
